Quest Story: Memorial Day

This problem has been slowly escalating over the past few days Commander. Construction at the old war cemetery begins today, and we already have angry protesters at the site putting themselves in danger.

You can progress down both paths at once. The top path will earn you the SpecOps Barracuda and the bottom, the SpecOps Nuclear Sub Carrier!

Quest Hook: A tall, dark and handsome business man just unveiled his plans to build a commercial building over some very old, sacred land. Your people are not happy.

Quest Pop-up: Commander, people are up in arms about the old cemetery land being put to commercial use. This Mr. Sly is a smooth talker but there's something very off about him. I think this is worth looking into.

1 - Small Talk

Commander, I think you should accompany me to the press conference that Mr. Sly is speaking at today, announcing the commencement of his construction. We should get a feel of this new guy, figure out what he's about.

Get on Mr. Sly's good side, keep his defenses as low as they'll go.

• Get {total} Lint Brushes to look your dapper best.
• Earn {total} Red Hearts to keep your reputation stellar.
• Collect {total} {Ore}. Makes a good gift, yes?

Well, he certainly is charming. But his looked sent shivers down my spine. I'm not being dramatic, my intuition is normally bang on.

TOP PATH

2a - Suspicious Minds

I'm going to try and get a hold of the plans for the building. If everything looks good, then I promise I'll drop this issue. But I have a feeling we're going to find something here.

It's all in the plans, look hard and look long.

• Hire {total} Architects and Engineers to examine the plans.
• Harvest {total} Poppies. On Memorial Day, everyone wears a poppy.
• Collect {total} coins to pay your engineers.

For one thing, those plans were extremely difficult to acquire which is strange, seeing as all plans should be available for public viewing. Secondly, there's an extra level below ground that requires a lot more electricity than usual, enough to power a weapons lab.

3a1 - Boom!

He must have known we were coming to search his office. That explosion was no coincidence. Are you okay Commander? Do you need an ambulance?

Things are about to get serious, you need to be prepared.

• Gather {total} Fire Blankets to protect you from the explosion.
• Upgrade your Naval Depot once.
• Fight {total} WD Battles to keep your military reputation strong.

Things just got really serious. I had a team working on Sly's location immediately. They've tracked him down. His business meeting happens to be on a private island.

3a2 - Run, baby, run.

I had a warrant to seize Mr. Sly's personal communication devices and computers but when I got there, he had left on a 'business trip'. It had to have been an extremely urgent trip for him to have taken his private jet from his private runway.

He's definitely hiding something. Follow him and find out what it is!

• Obtain {total} Emergency Travel Kits, we're going after him.
• Build {total} Strike Teams to defend your empire while you're away.
• Repel {total} Invasions. Let him think you're occupied on homeland.

We managed to track him down using our satellites. He has landed and is currently on a private island. I assume he owns it. Let's go check it out.

4a - Rude Shock

I have to say Commander, this place is stunning. He's got style, this Sly, I'll give him that much. Let's find out what he's doing holed up in that unnecessarily huge mansion.

Sly, hand in hand with the Dark Alliance. Of course.

• Get {total} Sand boots so your troops can scale the beach with ease.
• Fight Sly, Von Helman and their minions!
• Win {total} Battle Blitz fights, it will only make you stronger.

How did I not see this coming! Of course he was involved with the Dark Alliance. I'm so glad we brought back up troops with us, that was one messy battle. Von Helman got away but we've got Mr. Sly. We can squeeze everything out of him now.

5a - People at Peace

Mr. Sly is under arrest and he'll be enjoying the many hours in the day that he'll be spending in solitary confinement. That'll give him enough time to think about his actions.

Memorial Day memorabilia never gets old.

• Get {total} Memorabilia to celebrate Memorial Day with.
• Win {total} Dominance Battles. They will bring you closer to Von Helman.
• Harvest {total} Chili Peppers, you'll need them for the party later.

It is a happy day in our empire today. The entire nation is celebrating and we've prevented a much bigger disaster from happening. Happy Memorial Day, Commander!

BOTTOM PATH

2b - Order, order

The public are challenging Mr. Sly in a civilian court battle. He's going to win this case because legally, he owns this land and he can do what he wants with it. It just seems so... wrong. I'm going to find a way to bring him down within the legal system.

Your military resolve must never break. Mr. Sly looks like he's got some tricks up his sleeve.

• Hire {total} Security Convoys to escort you to the court hearing.
• Use {total} Power-Ups in battle. Stay strong, especially around this new guy.
• Collect {total} Oil. There's never enough Oil.

Just as I thought, Mr. Sly won. The people are outraged. He finds this all amusing. His nonchalant attitude makes it very difficult for me to be professional, Commander. Now I'm definitely taking him down.

3b - Well Un-Rested

The protests are only getting more violent. We've actually had to break out the tear gas and use mild force on the public. Mr. Sly has become one of the most hated public figures, ridiculed on public forums, the subject of major debate.

Remember, your public is vulnerable and angry. Do not get on their bad side.

• Hire {total} Mail Room Employees to sort through all the angry letters.
• Complete {total} Waves of Survival Mode, a training exercise to the chaos in your empire.
• Collect {total} {nrare2} to power your back up units if need be.

There isn't much we can do for now except to impose a curfew and tighten security in certain parts of the country. Especially around Mr. Sly's extravagant home.

4b1 - Unfinished Business

An assassination attempt against the business man sends the country spiraling into panic and chaos. He wasn't killed but he was fairly seriously injured and is currently being hospitalized in a private VIP ward.

Your nation looks vulnerable to the world at the moment. Stay alert.

• Get {total} VVIP access badges to see Mr. Sly in the hospital.
• Deploy {total} Battle Ships to protect your empire during this sensitive time.
• Build {total} Land Units. You might need them.

All construction plans have been halted and he will decide what to do when he's out of the hospital. This is a temporary solution but it has eased the problem significantly.

4b2 - Man Down

During protests outside of this Sly's home, one of his men fired at an unarmed civilian. The frenzied public demands justice and according to the law, Mr. Sly must be held responsible for this.

The interest of your public is a greater cause than any commercial building.

• Collect {total} Candles to place at the tribute of the victim.
• Win {total} Battle Blitz Fights. Prepare to take on Sly if he resists.
• Deal {total} damage to carriers, they could be supplying dangerous ammo to Sly.

Mr. Sly's arrest means that all construction has been permanently stopped. He's going to do time for the death of an unarmed civilian at the hands of his bodyguard.

5b - Catch of the Day

Finally the chaos is dying down, the war cemetery is once again a public space and in celebration of this, the people of your empire are celebrating the memory of those who fought for our empire.

You need Element Z to use Experimental Abilities.

• Collect {total} Decorations to celebrate Memorial Day.
• Use {total} Experimental Abilities in battle. Get that edge over your enemy.
• Deploy {total} Soldiers. Have a safe celebration.

This is a solemn but good Memorial Day. All is right with the world again. Well, until tomorrow at least.
